On 29 February, the FRA hosted a stakeholder meeting on inequalities and multiple discrimination in access to healthcare, focusing on the provisional findings of the FRA research project on the subject.
The meeting brought together around 35 participants representing the 5 countries covered in the FRA research (Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Sweden and the UK). Participants included representatives from health ombudsmen, equality bodies, health provider associations, Member State governments, NGOs, international organisations as well as the European Commission. Participants discussed the project findings and possible follow-up measures at national and EU level during working groups.
Participants agreed on the relevance of structural discrimination and on the need to know more about specific barriers to healthcare faced by different intersectional groups of migrant patients (persons with disabilities, women, old). Equality bodies and health ombudsmen called for more cooperation in identifying and referring individual cases of discrimination in healthcare.
