UN expert group meeting discusses LGBTI inclusion measures

FRA was invited to present the EU LGBT survey findings at the expert group meeting on measuring the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people in New York on 16-17 September.

The meeting was organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) as a first step towards developing an LGBTI inclusion index. The planned index would follow a number of successful UNDP indices (such as the Human Development Index), but in the absence of outcome measurements for LGBTI people the index may at first mainly build upon data derived from an assessment of legal and policy frameworks for LGBTI issues. The experts were invited to discuss priority issues that the index should cover, as well as to identify existing or potential data sources and ways of giving due attention to each of the five LGBTI groups.
