On 7 June, FRA spoke about children’s participation in judicial proceedings at the VII Conference on Childhood Studies in Turku, Finland.
The conference is a well-established multidisciplinary forum for research on children and childhood. FRA presented cross-national research involving semi-structured qualitative interviews with 346 children in nine EU countries. It was an opportunity for FRA to learn from children themselves of how they were treated in judicial proceedings and what would be important for them to participate effectively. The presentation focused on measures and methods used to ensure a child-sensitive participation in this research and lessons learned.
