Major international child rights event looks towards creating a better world for children, adolescents and families

From 22-25 August, FRA took part in the 33rd FICE Congress and 2nd CYC World Conference: Together Towards a Better World for Children, Adolescents and Families in Vienna.

The event was organised by the International Federation of Educative Communities (FICE) and was attended by an international group of around 600 professionals and child rights experts. During the event FRA chaired panel sessions on rights of the child and presented FRA research including the German version of its Handbook on European Law on the Rights of the Child. The handbook is now available in English, French, German and Portuguese and other EU languages will follow.

In the panel on unaccompanied children, FRA presented its work on guardianship for children deprived of parental care in the context of migration and child trafficking in the EU, discussed the challenges of protecting children and outlined promising practises. FRA also presented findings from its research on the triggers of violence against children with disabilities and its key recommendations to protect such children from violence.

In addition, the Agency also spoke about the views of children and their experiences of being involved in judicial proceedings, particularly concerning their right to be heard and to participate effectively in judicial proceedings.
