The event discussed how law enforcement and victim support services can interact and cooperate to provide essential help to victims of crime at the earliest stage possible. Around 80 senior police officers from about 12 EU Member States took part. FRA presented its research findings on victims of crime, focusing on the extent and nature of support for victims of crime. It also highlighted various promising practices that could be transferred between Member States and practical ‘tools’ that enable victims to access support. It addition, FRA spoke about the important role that the police play and the challenges of building victims’ trust and encouraging reporting, for example. Speakers from the Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV) and European Gender Institute also presented their work.
