The Agency and the Committee of the Regions held their 8th Annual Dialogue in Brussels on 24 November.
The meeting focused on the integration of refugee children in education and related challenges with a particular focus on local authorities. Local and regional authorities are key actors to facilitate and provide education for migrants, displaced people, refugees and stateless children. Non-discrimination plays a central role in enabling the children of migrants to access education.
The meeting explored how local authorities can support the education of refugee children and participants shared experiences and best practices. The Agency presented its data and expertise in the area of asylum-seeking children and migrant children more broadly, building on its monthly overviews of migration-related fundamental rights issues. Since 2009, the Annual Dialogue has been a platform to discuss fundamental rights themes of relevance at the regional and local level, and to share knowledge of existing fundamental rights good practices.
