EU Justice and Home Affairs ministers exchange views

The Agency’s Director and its Head of the Freedoms and Justice Department joined ministers from across the EU to discuss asylum and border management issues.

The discussions were part of the informal meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers in Valletta from 26 to 27 January, convened under the Maltese Presidency of the EU. Areas for exchange of views included the Common European Asylum System and key legislative and policy files in this area, as well as the use and further development of IT systems for the purpose of border management and security.

The Agency’s spoke on a number of these items to underline the importance of fundamental rights compliance, which can serve to underpin rather than hinder their development.
