The Agency spoke about the challenges of guardianships systems for unaccompanied children in EU Member States and the added value of establishing a European guardianship network during a preparatory meeting on 16 June.
The establishment of a European network on guardianship was announced in the European Commission’s Communication on the protection of children in migration. This first preparatory meeting in Brussels was organised by the European Commission. It was attended by representatives of 20 EU Member States, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. The mandate and modus operandi of such a network was discussed and will be finalised in a meeting in September. The network is expected to be up and running starting in 2018.
