FRA stressed the importance of ensuring a long-term and sustainable approach to security, which takes wider aspects such as integration into consideration. Human rights must be part of the solution, not seen as an issue with which security should be merely balanced. FRA drew on several of its related research projects, not least the recent results from its second EU-wide minorities and discrimination survey.

The Agency spoke during a round-table discussion on EU strategies on counter terrorism, terrorism and extremism at a forum in Rome on 28 September, organised by the European Ideas Network, a ‘think-tank’ of the European People’s Party.
