Greek Ombudsman issues report on the migration situation

On 1 June, the Agency attended the launch of the first report by the Greek Ombudsman on the ‘Migration Situation and Refugee Protection’.

The report describes the fundamental rights challenges faced by Greece in the management of the asylum and migration situation since 2015 on the islands and in the mainland. It complements the FRA opinion issued in November 2016.

Some of the main fundamental rights issues identified in the report include the use of detention, safety in the camps, education for children (particularly on the islands), identification and referral of vulnerable people, respect for procedural safeguards in return and readmission procedures as well as child protection issues.
