UN Committees join forces to protect children in the migration context

The Agency took part in the regional experts’ consultation on the Joint General Comment on the Human Rights of children in the context of international migration, developed by the Children Rights Committee and the Committee on Migrant Workers.

The meeting, which took part in Madrid on 4 and 5 May, focused on discussing thematic areas included in the draft General Comment, such as the right to be heard, right to liberty, family life or durable solutions. It was attended by experts from Member States in the Mediterranean area, as well as UN bodies such as the UNHCR, OHCHR, UNICEF, and the European Commission and civil society.

The Agency provided advice based on its research in the area of migration and child rights. The General Comment is expected to be adopted in the next Committees’ session in Geneva in September.
