FRA’s EU-wide survey on violence against women clearly demonstrated that all EU Member States need to do more to protect women from violence. The Council of Europe is actively challenging some of the misconceptions related to the Convention to help ensure that more countries will ratify it. The event took place in Brussels on 25 April.
It was organised by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung’s EU office to discuss some of the challenges, which the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) has faced in the EU Member States which have not yet ratified it.
Representatives from FRA, the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Women’s Lobby and the Bulgarian Permanent EU Representation all took part in the event.
