Developing the Italian guardianship system for unaccompanied migrant and asylum-seeking children

On 23 January, the Agency took part in a meeting on the volunteer guardianship system for unaccompanied migrant and asylum-seeking children in Italy.

This meeting was organised by the Italian Ombudsperson for Children to hear feedback from the initial training of volunteer guardians organised with the support of the European Asylum Support Office and to discuss future initiatives. The Agency is contributing in various ways to help establish a functioning guardianship system in Italy. These include being a resource person during training sessions, distributing its handbook on guardianship for children deprived of parental care to potential guardians and meeting with the children’s Ombudsperson to share the Agency’s experience and practices from other EU Member States.

The meeting was attended by EU and UN bodies, as well as several NGO training partners.
