European Parliament hearing discusses interoperability

On 19 April, the Agency presented its legal opinion on the European Commission’s two interoperability proposals at a meeting with the rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs in the European Parliament.

Also Europol was invited to present its opinion on the proposals. The proposals foresee interoperability between existing and planned IT systems in the areas of borders, visa, asylum and police cooperation.

FRA referred to the main points intended to strengthen fundamental rights safeguards. In addition, FRA referred to its suggestion to mainstream fundamental rights in the implementation and evaluation of interoperability.
