FRA joined urban security workshop discussions

The Agency highlighted the importance of addressing discrimination, harassment and violence as part of a comprehensive approach of security in urban policies during a European Commission’s stakeholder workshop on urban security FRA’s contributions drew on evidence from its second EU Minorities and Discrimination Survey (EU-MIDIS II).

The event took place in Brussels on 18 January. It brought together representatives from the European Commission, the European Committee of the Regions, the Joint Research Centre, as well as representatives of cities and regions, cities networks, professional groups and academia. The workshop aimed to better understand the challenges faced at local level on security and explore how to better address these in urban policies. The results of the workshop will contribute to new EU initiatives to integrate security issues into urban policies and the EU’s Urban Agenda.
