The project will look at how the migrant situation poses challenges at the local level. It will explore the relevance of human rights on how local governments welcome and integrate refugees. FRA will contribute with its evidence-based advice on the situation of migrants and refugees in the EU and other ongoing research into communicating rights. The project’s field research will run from 2018 to 2019. The advisory group also includes representatives from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) and the Mayor of Middelburg. The meeting took place in Middelburg in the Netherlands on 30 January.
