Practical training in Riga on procedural safeguards

The Agency chaired various panels at the Academy of European Law's (ERA) event on Procedural Safeguards - practical training for the daily practice of legal practitioners in Riga on 15 and 16 February.

The event’s main objective was to provide practical training to legal practitioners on the application of procedural rights embodied in different EU directives in criminal proceedings. It was organised in cooperation with the European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association (EULITA), the European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA), the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) and the Latvian Judicial Training Centre in Riga.

The Agency was a resource person during the training and its report on the Rights of suspected and accused persons across the EU: translation, interpretation and information as well as its Handbook on European law relating to access to justice was distributed to judges, prosecutors, defence lawyers and law enforcement officials from the national level.
