Underlining fundamental rights in justice and home affairs policies

The Agency’s Director, together with the Head of the Freedoms and Justice Department, took part in the Informal Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council Meeting in Sofia from 25 to 26 January, which was held under the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Director made a number of interventions during the two days, with the Agency’s presence serving to underline the central role that fundamental rights plays across different policy files – ranging from migration policy through to artificial intelligence.

The two-day event also allowed for a number of bilateral meetings between the Agency and different Ministers. This included the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency and the Greek authorities, under Minister Mouzalas, which facilitates the Agency’s work to enhance fundamental rights compliance in the Greek migration hotspots.
