Webinar on interviewing children in criminal proceedings

On 12 December, the agency gave an online seminar, organised by the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training, CEPOL, on ‘Interviewing children victims and witnesses of crime.’

More than 160 police officers and prosecutors took part in an interactive session on how to check what procedural safeguards need to be in place to ensure that children can feel safe and comfortable when participating in criminal proceedings.

FRA’s input drew on the agency’s child friendly justice checklist for professionals that is available in all EU languages as well as Russian and Ukrainian. Participants also worked with case studies that were derived from the interviews with children who had been victims and witnesses in cases of sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect and severe custody conflicts from the agency’s research into child-friendly-justice
