Vienna and FRA discuss past and future cooperation

FRA’s Director met Vienna Vice-Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr, responsible for Education, Youth, Integration and Transparency on 6 September. The meeting was at the invitation of the Vienna Human Rights Commissioner, Shams Asadi.

He presented key human rights priorities and projects in Vienna. The discussion included youth participation, migrant integration, social housing and social care for homeless people.

FRA and Vienna welcomed the great cooperation engaged over the years, particularly during FRA’s Fundamental Rights Forum and its Framework for Human Rights Cities.

FRA’s Director stressed the importance of bringing human rights to the local level and praised the great engagement of Vienna on human rights.

The discussion looked into new opportunities for cooperation related to the fight against antisemitism and Vienna’s 10-year anniversary as a Human Rights City.

FRA and Vienna also agreed to cooperate in the context of the new EU-funded project ‘RIGHTSCITIES’, to which Vienna is a key partner. The project involves five European cities and other partners. It aims at localising the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights by operationalising the FRA Framework for Human Rights Cities.
