FRA will host an expert meeting on the importance of fundamental rights to the rule of law on 25 and 26 November. The meeting will bring together some 20 experts from the judiciary, national human rights structures, civil society and academia to discuss the links between fundamental rights and the rule of law.

The meeting will feed into a report to be published by FRA in mid-2026. The report aims to highlight the relationship between fundamental rights and the rule of law. It will also explore the ways in which fundamental rights arguments can be employed to strengthen the rule of law, and the role of both the courts and non-judicial bodies such as national human rights institutions in linking the two concepts.

The workshop is part of the wider engagement of the agency with the rule of law which includes co-organising national rule of law dialogues with the European Commission.

Earlier this year, FRA prepared a submission to the Venice Commission in the context of the update of its rule of law checklist and a submission to this year’s annual rule of law report.
