On 5-6 July, FRA attended a two day workshop in Athens on how to strengthen guardianship systems in Greece. Organised in cooperation with the Greek Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity and Ministry of Justice, FRA drew on its Guardianship systems for children deprived of parental care in the European Union to provide insight into the key features required within a guardianship system, with a particular focus on unaccompanied children.
FRA took part in Eurochild’s annual conference “Children’s Rights Matter: Why Europe needs to invest in children?”. The event in Brussels on 7 July took stock of developments since the Commission Recommendation on Investing in Children.
On 28 June in Paris, FRA took part in the conference ‘Children, Europe, Emergency’ organised by the French ‘Défenseur des Droits´ in cooperation with the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children and the Council of Europe.
On 7 June, FRA spoke about children’s participation in judicial proceedings at the VII Conference on Childhood Studies in Turku, Finland.
The Fundamental Rights Forum 2016 is fast approaching with only 10 days left until the event begins on 20 June in Vienna. Over the course of four days, participants will look from different perspectives at three burning issues: refugee protection, inclusion and the digital age.
On 31 May, FRA took part in the event organised in the European Parliament by the European Social Network to mark the release of its report on the implementation of the European Commission’s Recommendation ‘Investing in Children: Breaking the cycle of disadvantage’.
FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty spoke during the opening of a high-level global child rights conference in Vienna that took place from 1 to 2 June.
On 25 May FRA took part in a Dutch Presidency event in Amsterdam co-organised with the European Agency for Inclusive Education.
FRA presented the Portuguese translation of its Handbook on European Law relating to the Rights of the Child at a congress organised by the Portuguese Association for the Promotion of Human Dignity on 24-25 May at the Calouste Gulbelkian Foundation in Lisbon.
