Hundreds of thousands of Roma were victimised during World War Two. On Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights honours this day and calls on Member States to do more to end the antigypsyism that Roma communities across Europe continue to face in their daily lives.
FRA’s Director outlined the EU’s pressing fundamental rights challenges during an exchange of views with the European Parliament’s Committee of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE) on 20 June in Brussels.
FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty delivered a keynote address at the Maynooth University’s Department of Law conference on 22 June. His speech reviewed the successes and challenges of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights after 70 years. He spoke about the role of fundamental rights in European societies, and addressed challenges related to protecting these rights within the EU.
