Towards a European survey on gender-based violence

A Eurostat task force met in Rome from 1 to 2 April to develop a European survey on gender-based violence. A number of EU Member States are piloting the survey in 2018-2019 before full-scale data collection in 2020-2022.

The new survey builds upon FRA’s EU-wide survey on violence against women.

Members of the task force attending the meeting – national statistical institutes, FRA and EIGE in addition to Eurostat and the European Commission – made a number of suggestions how to improve the draft questionnaire and recommendations concerning the survey methods.

The task force will meet again in the fourth quarter of 2019 when all pilots have been completed to make final decisions before the full-scale survey fieldwork begins in countries that have expressed an interest to implement the survey.
