FRA joins the EU Asylum Agency’s first fundamental rights conference

FRA provided fundamental rights input to the EU Asylum Agency’s (EUAA) first fundamental rights conference, organised by the EUAA Fundamental Rights Officer on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. The event focused on the protection of fundamental rights in asylum and reception.

It also looked at the role and accountability of EU agencies in this regard. The conference aimed at offering a platform to foster knowledge sharing and discussions on emerging challenges, developments, and complexities of fundamental rights in the asylum context in Europe.

The conference, dedicated to EUAA personnel, took place on 10 December 2025 in Malta. It brought together approximately 210 staff members, including the 20 recently-appointed ‘fundamental rights focal points’ of the Agency.

FRA was one of the six invited panellists (besides academics and representatives of the Council of Europe). It contributed to the discussions with its legal analysis, its evidence gathered via research and fieldwork, and formulated recommendations. It also promoted many relevant publications and materials the Agency has produced on the matter in the past 10 years.
