FRA Charter Opinion discussed by Council Working Group

The agency presented its Opinion on the challenges and opportunities for implementing the EU’s Fundamental Rights Charter to the Council Working Group dealing with fundamental rights (FREMP).

The Opinion analyses how the Charter is used in national case law, legislation and policy making but also how the Charter is used by EU agencies. The analysis concerning the use of the Charter by the EU agencies is based on detailed questionnaires that were filled in by 42 EU agencies.

The Opinion concludes with eight recommendations with the last one suggesting that Member States should consider introducing an ‘annual charter exchange’ in FREMP to allow Member States learn from promising practices on how to best make use of the Charter’s potential.
