The Belgian Presidency of the EU Council invited FRA to present.
FRA’s presentation fed into discussions among Member State experts on how to operationalise this obligation of establishing independent national fundamental rights monitoring mechanisms. This is an obligation under the EU’s Screening Regulation and its Asylum Procedure Regulation.
Member States provided useful and constructive comments for the Agency to take into consideration when finalising the guidance.
FRA’s work builds on its earlier broader general guidance on border monitoring. The Agency plans to publish the updated guidance in the second half of 2024.
