Updated guidance on national fundamental rights monitoring presented to EU Council asylum working group

FRA presented to the EU Council’s Asylum Working Party its updated guidance on setting up national independent mechanisms to monitor fundamental rights compliance during screening and asylum border procedures.

FRA’s presentation fed into discussions among Member State delegations on how to operationalise this obligation. The obligation falls under the EU’s Screening Regulation and its Asylum Procedure Regulation

The presentation also covered FRA’s ongoing work to develop a common methodology to monitor compliance with fundamental rights under the EU Pact.

The meeting took place in Brussels on 27 March.
