High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development discusses SDGs and human rights

The agency, as part of the European Union delegation, will take part in the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2019 on Sustainable Development.

The event ‘Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’ is being organised by the United Nations in New York from 11 to 16 July. The HLPF reviews the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The agency will contribute to the side event ‘Human rights and the 2030 Agenda as mutually reinforcing: Ensuring no one is left behind while accelerating SDG implementation’, in partnership with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; the Danish Institute for Human Rights; the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, Equinet and the Group of Friends of Sustainable Development (co-chair by Denmark and Chile).

The side event will focus on how to effectively integrate a human rights-based approach to SDG planning, implementation, monitoring and review looking in particular at equality, non-discrimination and at ways of identifying and reaching those at risk of being left behind highlighting the importance of disaggregated data.

FRA will present findings of its recently publication ‘Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in the EU: a matter of human and fundamental rights. FRA will also share examples of its relevant statistical data and other evidence, for example on violence against women, inequalities and discrimination affecting migrants and minorities, etc.

The HLPF brings together key stakeholders, including governmental national SDG Focal Points, international and regional organisations, civil society, academia and the private sector
