The workshop co-organised by the European Commission and FRA brought together civil society organisations to discuss the findings of the FRA report 'Being Muslim in the EU' and the challenges they face in combating this form of racism.

Participants in the workshop emphasised some of the challenges to providing effective responses, including denial of anti-Muslim racism, underreporting of incidents, lack of comprehensive data and stigmatisation of Muslim organisations. Other key issues include the normalisation of anti-Muslim narratives and online hate speech.

The workshop identified ways forward, including the need for comprehensive equality data, an intersectional approach to combat anti-Muslim racism, and supporting civil society organisations. Participants also stressed the need for a clear definition for anti-Muslim racism and the turning point for the EU in addressing this issue, particularly with the EU Anti-Racism Plan 2020-2025 nearing its conclusion.

The European Commission and FRA will continue to work together to address the growing concern of anti-Muslim discrimination in Europe, with a focus on developing targeted legal and policy solutions.
