Conference examines statelessness and residence rights in the EU

FRA gave a presentation at a technical conference exploring the links between statelessness and residence permits granted to these individuals in the EU.

The discussions built on the findings of the EMN Inform on Statelessness in the EU, published in November 2016. The agency’s presentation focused on what kind of protection EU law offers to stateless people in EU Member States, especially from the perspective of their legal status in the EU and what role EU law can play in securing residence rights.

The conference proceedings will feed into the updating of the 2016 EMN Inform on Statelessness in the EU.

The conference was organised by the European Migration Network (EMN) Platfom on Statelessness, in cooperation with EMN National Contact Points in Ireland and Luxembourg. It took place on 7 May in Dublin.
