Discussions focused on how to effectively use international human rights instruments to combat discrimination against and ensure active social citizenship for older people. There was a presentation on results from the study on the current use and future potential of the European Social Charter against ageism.
FRA’s presented the current state of EU legal instruments and policies. It pointed to some of the current asymmetries in the political and legal structure. FRA underlined the need to mainstream the rights of older people in EU policies and activities. It also spoke about its project on ageing in digital societies – ensuring social rights. It is also important to tackle the digital divide when accessing services, and to increase visibility of older people in data and statistics.
