The Board adopted its terms of reference and elected the European Data Protection Board as chair and the Frontex Fundamental Rights Officer as deputy chair. FRA joins the European Data Protection Supervisor and a representative of the Frontex Consultative Forum as members of the Board.
The Guidance Board has an advisory function. It issues recommendations on the impact on fundamental rights of the processing of ETIAS applications.
ETIAS will support the border procedure by pre-screening all visa-free travellers coming for a short stay to the EU. It is expected to be in place in November 2023.
FRA also provided training on the fundamental rights implications of the system for the future ETIAS national units during Frontex-organised training from 15 to 17 November.
