UN Disability Convention Committee reviews EU disability commitments

FRA took part in the second review of the EU’s implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD) to which the EU is a Party. FRA participated as a member of the EU level monitoring framework and supported the CRPD Committee with data and research on people with disabilities.

The agency delivered concluding remarks at the end of the review. It highlighted that the EU needs to invest more in efficiently mainstreaming disability across all of its law and policies to ensure that all EU funding is fully in line with the CRPD. It also stressed the need for the EU to revise the EU monitoring framework under the Convention.

The CRPD Committee’s Concluding Observations will form an authoritative guidance for the EU’s law and policy making in the years to come.

They will be published in April 2025. The meeting took place in Geneva from 10 to 12 March.
