FRA paper on the rights-based approach to affordable housing

FRA shared input with the European Commission as it drafts its first EU affordable housing plan. FRA calls for a rights-based approach to housing.

It highlights that policies must be grounded in key fundamental rights like equality, non-discrimination and participation. This approach can help guide EU and national efforts to increase access to affordable, sustainable, and decent housing, especially for vulnerable people.

FRA's recommendations draw on its previous research which shows that certain groups often face discrimination in housing and are more likely to experience poverty, exclusion, and poor living conditions.

FRA's evidence-based advice should help the EU shape its affordable housing plan to ensure no one is left behind.
