The session will examine which tools are available in the EU to address threats to the rule of law. The discussion will focus on various aspects of the issue, such as the existing instruments at the EU level to respond to threats, the possibility for judges to act, the challenges facing civil society in this context, and the usefulness of an effective rule of law and fundamental rights monitoring mechanism to enhance EU capacity to act preventively.
The CEPS Ideas Lab has been organised annually by the Centre for European Policy Studies since 2014 and this year has ‘Europe’s Choice’ as an overarching theme.
