Internal Regulation for the Operation of General Detention Facilities B (Εσωτερικός Κανονισμός Λειτουργίας Γενικών Καταστημάτων Κράτησης τύπου Α' και Β')Prisoners spend a large portion of the day outdoors (within the boundaries of the detention facility) doing sports, working, participating in educational and other programmes, and enjoying free time. The schedule provides for time outdoors between 08.00 am and 12.00 pm, and in the afternoon between 15.00 pm and half an hour before sunset. In order to maintain their physical and mental health prisoners are given at least one hour each day to walk or exercise in the yard of the detention facility or in any other open space protected from weather conditions.

Inactivity worsens the already poor psychological state of prisoners, while the organisation of seminars and workshops will help manage tensions and facilitate the smooth reintegration of prisoners . 2019In its annual special report of 2019 , the NMP stresses the many issues that came up during its inspections, e.g. shortcomings in education, leisure, employment and training activities, were aggravated due to severe understaffing. Report details
