Regulation No. 437/2006 Coll. of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic on Detention order as amended by the Regulation No. 409/2023Detainees within both regimes (standard and reduced) are entitled to spend time in the outdoor area on a daily basis at least for one hour. This right can be cancelled or limited due to justified reasons (such as abusing institutional rules, threatening behaviour, etc.) by the director of the detention institution or the prison officer. The outer area has to be equipped with places to sit and sports area. It as well must provide conditions for a walk even in bad weather conditions. Premises with the necessary equipment for sports and other recreational activities are available to the detainees. The rooms for leisure activities are equipped according to the type of activity; the rooms and outdoor areas for sports activities are equipped in particular with weight-training equipment, equipment for actual physical exertion and equipment for ball games.

Formal education is governed by the same legislation as regular education outside detention institution (i.e., by the Schooling Act41). If at the moment of admission, a detainee is enrolled in high school or a university programme the detention institution will enable him/her to continue his/her studies in a distant form upon his/her request.
