Regulation No. 447/2006 Coll. of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic on the organisation of the provision of health care in the Prison and Court Guard ServicePrisoners have access to medical care both internally and externally. Medical care for prisoners is provided in medical facilities within the detention institutions on ambulatory basis and in the hospital for prisoners (presently in Trenčín) on both ambulatory and institutional basis.

The specialized care is provided mainly in stomatology, psychiatrics, internal medicine, neurology, gynaecology and surgery. Ambulatory care with the presence of a doctor is provided usually from 7:00-15:00 during workdays and the nursing care from 6:00-15:00 during workdays. In case of an emergency and/or need of immediate care that cannot be provided within the detention institution, the emergency rescue is called.
