Description

The panel was established in 2015 and has since contributed to the enforcement of a number of measures resulting from rulings of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the decisions of other international bodies. It is an advisory body to the Czech government agent when going before the ECtHR. The aims of the panel’s activities are to contribute to the effective enforcement of ECtHR judgments and to raise awareness of Czechia’s obligations under the convention among the competent authorities.
Another objective is the application of the convention and the case-law of the ECtHR in the daily practice of national authorities and, ultimately, full adherence to the fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the convention. Among organisations of the Council of Europe member states, the Office of the Czech Government Agent has been a good example of leadership and good practice on implementation, having achieved this through concerted efforts, which included intensive communication with the responsible authorities on individual judgments, and through awareness-raising. In the past 10 years, the Czech authorities have implemented over 40 leading judgments.
