Functions

• Promotes the rights and interests of victims of crime.
• Acts as a centre of competence for victims of crime.
• Provides information about criminal injury compensation and the Crime Victim Fund.
• Raises awareness through outreach to authorities and the public.
• Provides information, guidance and advice on crime victim issues.
• Represents the state in claims and recovers compensation.
• Integrates gender equality and child and youth perspectives.
• Has tasks related to the Crime Victim Fund and compensation legislation.

Specific mandates

Structured cooperation with partners at national level

• Cooperates with authorities and others.
• Improves conditions for cooperation on victim issues in society.
• Collaborates through theme days, events and appropriation assignments.
• Organises the national annual conference for the European Day for Victims of Crime.
• Works with civil-society actors at all levels.
• Finances civil society through the Crime Victim Fund.
• Supports Victim Support Sweden and women’s shelters.
• Holds regular meetings with national and local organisations.

Structured cooperation with partners at international and EU level

• Supports Sweden’s EU and international cooperation.
• Acts as a contact authority for European criminal injury compensation.
• Participates in projects such as the Benefits of full implementation of the Victims’ Rights Directive and the European Network on Victims’ Rights.
• Serves as the EU contact point for victims of terrorism.
• Engages in international working groups, conferences and information exchange.
