Key findings

In 2016, there were 117 cases of discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, race or skin colour (30,2%) and 12 cases of discrimination on the grounds of religion (4,2%) reported to Ombudsman Office. Regarding hate crimes, there were 35 incidents out of which race and skin colour were bias motivation for 11 cases.

The report was generated on the basis of information from a number of sources: a record number of 5,433 cases reported to the Ombudsman Office, field visits and work in more than 50 cities and villages across the country, recent research and data from hundreds of stakeholders, including competent public authorities, civil society organizations, trade unions, universities, religious organizations and many others.
