Key findings

The Commissioner notes that rampant intolerance is present towards minority groups, especially Roma, Muslims, migrants and asylum-seekers, ethnic Macedonians, LGBTI people. The report points to possible associations with criminality, negative media representation, beliefs that such groups are a danger to majority values. The role of politicians as proliferators of such narratives is also identified. Violent incidents and hate crimes against Muslim and Roma communities are noted (Islamophobic attacks).
