Key findings

The study was commissioned by the Independent Expert Group Anti-Muslim Hatred (see row 18). The study analyses various anti-Muslim media strategies, e.g. depicting the Islam as a danger, promoting othering, or generalizing the oppression of women. According to the study, some German Christian media hardly address the Islam and Muslims at all (ca. 4), some show clear links to right-wing/extreme right-wing narratives (particularly 3), and others reproduce anti-Muslim racisms without being one-sidedly fixed on that position. In conclusion, anti-Muslim narratives seem to be anchored in mainstream Christian media in Germany.
