Key findings

The Annual International Religious Freedom Report outlines the state of religious freedom in almost all countries and territories worldwide. It details government actions that infringe on the religious beliefs and practices of individuals, groups, and religious communities, as well as U.S. efforts to advance religious freedom globally. The reports are prepared and submitted by the U.S. Department of State.

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

Initial drafts of country chapters are prepared by U.S. embassies using information gathered from government representatives, religious communities, NGOs, journalists, human rights observers, scholars, media sources, and others. The Office of International Religious Freedom in Washington contributes by collecting and analysing further information. This process involves consultations with foreign government officials, both domestic and international religious groups and NGOs, multilateral and regional organisations, journalists, academic specialists, community figures, and relevant U.S. government agencies.
