Key findings

This report provides an insight into the areas of responsibility of the Directorate State Protection and Intelligence Service of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior as well as current challenges and possible future developments. According to the analysis provided in the report, the far-right scene in Austria has been represented by two main currents for around a decade: traditional neo-Nazism on the one hand and the ‘New Right’ on the other. Leading groups and circles have established themselves in both the neo-Nazi movement and the ‘New Right’, which attempted to realise the defined goal with the help of different topics during the observation period. First and foremost, the anti-Islam, anti-asylum and xenophobic explanatory patterns should be mentioned here, but also the clearly recognisable ambition to fuel existing hostility towards democracy with radical fundamentalist criticism of the official COVID-19 measures.

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)
