Key findings

This report provides an insight into the areas of responsibility of the Directorate State Protection and Intelligence Service of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior as well as current challenges and possible future developments. According to the analysis provided in the report, actions and protests by the ‘New Right’ in 2023 made it clear that the discursive focus was on the topics of asylum/migration policy, Muslims, Islam, the influence on the party spectrum and queer hostility. The ‘New Right’ organised a ‘hotspot tour’, which took place at designated locations in areas with high levels of migration, where criminal incidents by people with a migration background are said to have occurred. This approach was used to seek a systematic confrontation with the ideological enemy. Participating activists attempted to create an aggressive atmosphere by continuously provoking their opponents, which occasionally led to physical confrontations.
