Key findings
The report gives an overview of the current state of anti-Muslim hatred and racism and highlights developments in Germany after the 07 October 2023 Hamas attacks against Israel and the war that ensued in Gaza. While anti-Muslim hatred was already prevalent in Germany before 07 Oct 2023, a strong increase in anti-Muslim attacks was reported. The report indicates higher prevalences of anti-Muslim and anti-Islam attitudes among the older generation and in East Germany. It reasons that personal, interreligious contacts promotes a reduction of anti-Muslim stereotypes and attitudes. The report recommends differentiation in public debates to maintain social cohesion.
