Key findings

During the 24-month project "SafeNet", Greek Helsinki Monitor - GHM recorded 1.096 instances of hate speech on online social media platforms. 4% of these reports were anti-Muslim hate speech, 3% were xenophobic, 3% were against individuals of African descent/Black, 3% targeted the Roma, 5% were anti-refugee, 2% racist and 4% targeting ethnicity. The majority were pro-Nazi (48%) and Holocaust denial (21%). GHM also made requests for the removal of the hate speech content. The majority of posts were removed from "X" (612 out of 721).

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

There is no available information on the exact methodology. The GHM just notes that together with its partners in the project (INACH and its partners) are considered "trusted flaggers" for online hate speech content.
