The letter was signed by 210 civil society groups and 8,264 individuals. The letter received no response from the organisations it was addressed to. However, it did open up a public debate on the issue, which led to the banning of the demonstration by Lisbon City Council. However, the racist demonstration ended up taking place in a different location than originally planned.
